How to Get Rid of a Car That No Longer Runs in Quebec

Four options for a car that doesn't run

A car that won't start, has a dead transmission or failed inspection doesn't have to sit in the driveway for months. In Quebec you have four options: repair it, sell it as-is to a private buyer, donate it, or sell it to a scrap yard that picks it up.

1. Repair it

Repair only makes sense if the cost stays well below the car's value once fixed. Get a written estimate; if it's more than half the car's value, the money is often lost.

2. Sell it privately

Possible for a hobby mechanic, but a non-running car sells slowly and cheaply, and you still need to arrange and pay for a tow.

3. Donate it

Some organizations accept vehicles.

4. Sell it to a scrap yard

The simplest option for an end-of-life car: a firm price, free towing and cash at pickup. The price depends on weight, scrap metal prices, the catalytic converter and usable parts. Most scrap cars sell for $300 to $3,000.

Your vehicle qualifies for free towing + cash on pickup.

Most pickups are scheduled same-day or next-day. No hidden fees. Firm price.
