The words used in Quebec

In Quebec French people say "cour à scrap". In English you'll hear junk yard, scrap yard, salvage yard or auto wrecker. A "ferrailleur" is closer to a scrap metal dealer.

  • Scrap yard / recycler: buys the complete car, salvages parts, depollutes and recycles.
  • Salvage yard / junk yard: same activity, often with a used-parts counter.
  • Scrap metal dealer: pays mostly for metal by weight.

To sell a complete car, a scrap yard is usually the best choice: it values the converter and parts, and many — like us — include free towing.
